2015 Juvenile Osprey

I followed two osprey (Pandion haliaetus) nests this summer near Crystal Lake (Shasta County CA) . Happily each nest fledged two youngsters.

Pictured are the juvenile osprey from one of the nests. These birds are identified as juveniles because the dark brown feathers on their backs and wings have a buffy fringe.

Before long the osprey will be leaving for their winter homes in Central and South America. Some osprey remain in the far south of Continental United States throughout the winter.
