Yellow-breasted Chat

Yellow-breasted Chat

Yellow-breasted Chat

With its bright yellow throat, breast and belly, white undertail and white “spectacles”, the yellow-breasted chat (Icteria virens) should be easy to spot. However, this warbler lurks in dense riparian thickets and tangled brush, gleaning insects (occasionally fruits and berries) low in the shrubs, making it difficult to see and identify. Leonard and I were able to confirm our yellow-breasted chat sighting on the bank of the Klamath River downstream from the Ash Creek Bridge (Siskiyou County CA) using this poor photograph. My first yellow-breasted chat!
