Narrowleaf Montia

Another member of the Montiaceae family, see yesterday’s streambank spring beauty, is narrowleaf montia (Montia linearis). The small, white, five-petaled flowers develop into capsules containing shiny, black, lens-shaped seeds. The basal and alternate cauline (stem) leaves are long and narrow. These plants were photographed in moist areas of our pastures (Modoc County CA).
